A Story

This humorous “A Story” story is composed by Dylan Thomas.

A young boy is narrator of story. He passively observes the life of adults. The boy tells every detail of life and activity of his uncle, aunt, and uncle’s friends. The boy doesn’t comment, rather he simply present the list of activities they performed, the language they used and relationship they have. Though these, readers understand that, adults are careless people. They are unsystematic, wild, manner-less, distracted and non-sensible.
In this story, the boy presents adults world from a child’s point of view. This story is about the days’s out to Porthcawl by mother coach. Once Sunday evening, Benjamin and Will Sentry came to uncle with a lot of people who had paid for the outing. After their departure, the aunt asked the uncle to
choose the outing at which she became furious at breakfast. The next Sunday the boy found that the aunt have already left the house.
Finally, the boy describes the outing the uncle and his friends made a trip to Porthcawl for the outing. When they were out of the village for their outing destination, they found that old O’jones had been left behind and they had to go back to the villages and pick up him. On the way to the Porthcawl, they stop at every public house and drank heavy alcohol heaving the boy outside as the children were not allowed on the bad, and river seems on the way so they went for swimming there. They actually didn’t reach at Porthcawl. It was already late. O’jones started cooking his dinner with kerosene stove and other members started drinking alcohol sitting in a circle in front of closed bar. The boy begins to sleep on his uncle’s waist coat. And they returned back their home.
